The initiative to federate and promote the common interests of the US gliss industry in the beginning of the nineties, was put into motion by the leading American brands that felt the need to coordinate the divergent currents of opinion, resulting from the explosive growth of this market.
It was within this context that SIMA was created (Surf Industry Manufacturers Association) and motivated by the belief that the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts, was able to bring together and structure the brands to allow them to evolve together in the boardriding spirit.
Several years later, in light of its success, several leading
European brands such as Rip Curl, Billabong, Quiksilver, Rusty,
Gotcha and Hoff, decided to replicate the experience in creating
EuroSIMA (European Surf Industry Manufacturers Association)
along the same lines as the American model.
Little sister of SIMA, EuroSIMA was rapidly able to position
itself as the voice of the European surf industry. But the will
of EuroSIMA to more largely represent the whole boardsports
(surf/skate/snowboard) industry pushes the European association
to move closer to the mountain industry manufacturers and create
at the begining of 2005 its "Mountain Division".
From then until now, numerous actions have been undertaken in
the mountain sector and EuroSIMA is now considered as the European
Boardsports Industry Manufacturers Association.
The association is now composed of 95 company members & affiliated
of which there are 61 brands and 34 service providers.
The gliss industry enthusiasts who compose the EuroSIMA Board
of Directors meet regularly during the year to develop ideas,
propose solutions and to take decisions relative to the industry
that they represent. |
