5TH EDITION OF THE "RENCONTRES SURF & CULTURES

SURFING, ECONOMY AND TERRITORIES

 

ESTHUA students from theUniversity of Angers are organizing their annual "Surf & Cultures" meeting in Les Sables d'Olonne on December 4. This year's round table will bring together regional and national experts to discuss the territorial dimension of surfing and its impact on the economy and tourism development.

 

 

Surf & Cultures meetings return in 2024 with the theme "Surf, economy and territories". In the year of the Vendée Globe, the impact of nautical activities on the economy and tourism is being highlighted more than ever. As part of the "Surf and Cultures" meetings, ESTHUA has decided to put these themes into perspective, this time in relation to the surf industry, by bringing together professionals from the field and local elected representatives. These guests will provide the opportunity for constructive debate on a topic of vital importance to the development of coastal regions.

The aim of this meeting is to examine the relationship between surfing and economic development, from a territorial perspective. To this end, a round table will bring together Zoé ZADOUROFF (Eurosima), Karen ALLETRU (Vendée Tourisme), François APPLAGNAT (Basque Invest), and other speakers to be announced.

 

 

"Surfing has long been a dynamic,job-creating economicsector in France and Europe . Hundreds of companies are scatteredthroughout the coastal regions, some of them engaged in original processes of technological innovation. The transformations of this sport and its ever-increasing visibility therefore make it a relevanttheme foranalysis." Christophe Guibert - sociologist, university professor.

 

Ecological issues will of course be at the heart of the discussions. Exhibitors will include innovative shapers (mushroom-based boards, etc.) and artists committed to protecting the marine environment (photographers, etc.). Les Rencontres "Surf & Cultures" will be open to all and broadcast live on the Internet.
