Day 2

The 2nd day of the Sports Tourism Congress promises to be a rich one, with nearly 30 speakers bringing their expertise to the table, as well as fueling the debates. The aim is to explore a number of crucial themes for players in the field, and to identify the most relevant levers for tackling the sports tourism of tomorrow.

  • Climate change will be at the heart of the subject, with the necessary adaptation of tourist sports practices.
  • An important player in our modern societies, from an environmental, health and mobility point of view, cycling will be given pride of place with two presentations, "Mountain biking / VTTAE: the new economic grail of the mountains?" and an equally exciting event looking at "How to become the world's 1st nation for bicycle tourism? The economics of sports tourism: a key topic for targeting investment. This issue will be discussed in depth, with an exchange of views on the economic spin-offs of sporting events and activities.
  • How can you enhance the value of your region by building a sporting event offering? A wide-ranging and essential theme will be addressed through a series of testimonials. Congress speakers will draw on case studies to help them understand how to "reinvent trails for the benefit of territories", or to identify "the sports that could, in the future, be involved in roaming".
  • Developing offers and infrastructures, yes, but why not work on sports facilities with a dual target of locals & holidaymakers? This will also be discussed on Tuesday afternoon.
Beforehand, Laurent Peyrondet, the mayor of Lacanau, will demonstrate "How Lacanau Pro and the town's sports policy contribute to its European appeal".
  • Federating and regulating: these are perhaps the two main challenges facing those involved in building a sustainable, attractive, harmonious and environmentally-friendly sports tourism offering. The Congress will propose two reflections on this theme, to define the contours of good local governance and the proper regulation of the use of spots.
