FORUM DES MÉTIERS DE LA GLISSE 2024: DYNAMISM AND PASSION

The 5th edition of the Forum des Métiers de la Glisse, organized by EuroSIMA and France Travail(Sud Landes), the town of Hossegor and the MACSwas held on Wednesday April 3, 2024 in Hossegor, bringing together 250 enthusiasts to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the boardsports industry. This flagship event highlighted the vitality and attractiveness of the boardsports sector.

THE BOARDSPORTS INDUSTRY, A KEY REGIONAL CHALLENGE

This year's Forum des Métiers de la Glisse not only consolidated its position as a must-attend event for those involved in the industry, but also underlined the importance of the sector in the regional economic fabric. The opening of the event was marked by inspiring speeches from the Mayor of Hossegor, the President of EuroSIMA, and the Territorial Director of France Travail, all underlining the importance of this event in promoting careers in the boardsports industry, and the need to support the innovation and passion that drive this sector.

"The snow sports industry is essential to our region, and it's vital to support the development of jobs in this sector. Aside from seasonal jobs, our region is a breeding ground for employment, which we must continue to nurture and promote through events such as this one. Christophe Vignaud, Mayor of Hossegor.

"The Forum des Métiers de la Glisse is the first major event in our annual calendar. It's an opportunity to showcase the strength and dynamism of our industry. This afternoon, there will be 250 people in attendance, facing some twenty companies with all types of positions to fill. It's important for us to offer these opportunities for exchange, not least via this forum. I would like to wish both the candidates and the companies present an excellent exchange of ideas. This event is unique in France, within an industry that is demonstrating its dynamism in partnership with France Travail. " Jean Louis Rodrigues, President EuroSIMA

"We're delighted to be able to offer such an event, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful collaboration with EuroSIMA, on a subject that we feel is strategic for our region." Laurence Bachacou, Director France Travail St Vincent de Tyrosse

THE 5th EDITION IN TWO TIMES: ROUND TABLE AND JOB DATING

The first highlight of this year's event was a round-table discussion moderated by Wave Radio journalist Elise LAVEN, where industry experts shared their experiences and career paths: Laure Pucheu, HR Manager at Pyrenex, Renaud Lacoste, President of Tahe Outdoors France, Matthieu Galtié, Head of Digital & Ecommerce Europe at Liberated Brands Europe, Myriam Labarre, Sales Representative at Rip Curl Europe and Samuel Amouyal, Sales Representative for Town & Country Europe.

This was followed by our traditional and eagerly-awaited job dating event, which brought together nearly 250 participants, 25 company and training organization stands, and nearly 100 job and internship offers. This was an opportunity for candidates to meet face-to-face with key representatives of their target companies, including Oxbow, Pyrenex, Rip Curl, Liberated Brands, L'École des Métiers du Surf, Town & Country, Aspom, My School Plus, Sealocker, Yacht Club Landais...

These exchanges provide a privileged first contact for the candidate and an effective analysis of the profile for the recruiter. Once again, the diversity of profiles sought and the attractiveness of the sector are demonstrated.

THE FORUM ROUND TABLE :

Myriam Labarre, Rip Curl Europe, emphasized the importance of in-depth customer and market knowledge. Her profession, which is constantly evolving, requires a wide range of skills, from negotiation to marketing, and a great ability to adapt to customers' ever-increasing expectations. "Today's customers are increasingly well-informed and demanding.

Laure Pucheu, Pyrenex, emphasized the importance of candidates' soft skills and transversal competencies, revealing that Pyrenex values integration potential and personality as much as technical skills. "Pyrenex is 165 years old and we have 165 employees!"

Renaud Lacoste, Tahe Outdoors France, shared his conviction that passion is essential to enrich the team and stimulate innovation. He also illustrated how Tahe is committed to sustainability and local production with, as an example, their eco-designed drifts made in France from recycled fishing nets. " We have a more relaxed dress code than companies in other sectors, of course, but we're just as professional. Because the development of our company relies above all on qualified and passionate professionals."

Matthieu Galtié, Liberated Brands, described his role, which covers a wide range of digital skills (e-commerce, social networks, SEO, customer service, CRM, merchandising, etc.). He stresses the importance of monitoring and is looking for technical, inquisitive profiles capable of integrating easily into a team. The practice of board sports is not required, but is a significant plus for team cohesion and market knowledge. "During interviews, we obviously focus on the candidate's skills, but also and above all on his or her curiosity, ability to integrate into a team and passion for our sports (without necessarily being a practitioner)."

Samuel Amouyal, Town & Country Europe, is a good illustration of the importance of the Forum des métiers de la Glisse, as he secured his position following a youth contract obtained during the 2023 edition.

REFLECTIONS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS

This round table highlighted a significant change in recruitment criteria in the board sports sector: board sports experience, although highly valued, is no longer an essential prerequisite. The emphasis is now on integration skills, interpersonal skills and a keen interest in nature, our sports and sustainable development. This approach reflects a profound change in the expectations of candidates, who now favor a balance between personal life and professional ambitions, as well as a willingness to evolve within companies. Passion for board sports remains at the heart of the sector, with a view to achieving greater sustainability.

"We must continue to bring the passion of our sports to life through sustainable development and the protection of our playgrounds." Renaud Lacoste, Tahe.
