Product Developer / Modelist

Nature

The modelist receives then studies and analyses models from the stylist, in the form of sketches with technical annotations. The modelist works on the one hand with the stylist, who submits to him/her the sketch at every step of its creation, and on the other hand with the model- mechanic, who carries out various tests and trials and produces the first piece of clothing. It therefore mostly a sedentary position, to which is added the responsibility of assisting with presentations of collections and attending exhibits. During collection times, workload for modelists increases significantly and therefore a lot of overtime is required.

Mission

Creation of models and prototypes, taking into account materials and technical criteria defined by stylists, but also company equipment as well as management and production demands.
Development of clothing prototypes (models) in agreement with stylist.
Writing or adapting size sheets or technical tags for the elaboration of series manufacturing (patron – grids/ prototyping)
Launch, follow up and production of prototypes

Use of PDM (Product Data Management): software used for product data concentration

Access

Background and training in design and art schools are most appropriate for this type of position.
