EuroSIMA and Surfrider Foundation Europe join forces for a sustainable Action Sports industry

RIDE FOR GOOD, the new EuroSIMA campaign, kicks off with the Standards co-constructed with Surfrider Europe!

At EuroSIMA, we believe that the power of our Action Sports can bring about positive change in our world. That's why we're launching a new campaign: EUROSIMA, RIDE FOR GOOD! An initiative dedicated to supporting associations and actions that work for our favorite playgrounds, our environment and our society as a whole. Several times a year, we'll be highlighting projects that share our passion for board sports and our commitment to sustainability and solidarity.

Because we know that our industry and our sports are intimately linked to nature, we owe it to ourselves to be pioneers on environmental and social issues. Let's be proactive and stand up for sustainable, responsible action. It's time to make a difference and leave a positive footprint!

A unique collaboration for the environment: Surfrider Foundation Europe

EuroSIMA, an association at the heart of the European board sports industry, and Surfrider Foundation Europe, a leading NGO for the protection of the ocean, have joined forces. This collaboration has given birth to an innovative environmental standard, dedicated to guiding the boardsports industry towards more sustainable practices. This unique benchmark is the culmination of collaborative work between the teams of our associations, all united by the desire to preserve our most precious playground: the Ocean.

"The idea for this standard came from the realization that we - surfers, the industry, brands and retailers - need to take greater responsibility for our actions and decisions. It's essential to preserve our playgrounds, of which the ocean is obviously at the heart. I already had this in mind, but several meetings with Florent Marcoux, President of Surfrider Foundation Europe, confirmed the importance of working together to establish a common strategy, hence this co-constructed reference framework. Although the majority of our members already have an established strategy, it seemed crucial to mobilize our entire industry by offering precise support and clear guidelines, in order to "push us all to go further".

Jean Louis Rodrigues, President EuroSIMA

"To preserve the Ocean, the commitment of all the players who shape our society is essential. The board sports industry, which is intimately linked to nature, has a particular responsibility to measure its impact on the environment and adopt concrete measures to encourage more responsible practices. It is a pillar for all water sports enthusiasts. As such, it is a key player in driving a new, more sustainable and healthier way of life for the environment and for everyone. At EuroSIMA and Surfrider, we firmly believe in the industry's potential for action; through these standards, we aim to support the industry in this new chapter."

Florent Marcoux, President Surfrider Europe

A mutual commitment to the Ocean

The action sports industry is based on an inseparable link with nature. The preservation of oceans and natural areas is essential, not only for ecological responsibility, but also as a foundation for our business activity. Our collaboration with Surfrider Foundation Europe underlines this commitment: protecting our environment is synonymous with putting our industry into action. Together, we have created a benchmark that is not only a guide to sustainability, but also a concrete roadmap for our members to take the lead in protecting the environment, while strengthening their market position.

By adopting sustainable practices, our members invest in the longevity of their business and the health of the playing fields that fuel our passion. Today, environmental considerations can no longer be just a trend; they're a necessity, an urgent new strategic alignment that can't be ignored.

Clear objectives for a strong impact

Our shared mission is clear: to help our industry reduce its environmental impact and align itself with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The challenges are defined around five major axes:

  • build a sober economic model,
  • adopt responsible communication,
  • stop harmful chemical discharges, reduce plastic use,
  • and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Each of the issues addressed in our guidelines is enriched by action points, designed to guide companies towards the effective implementation of environmental strategies. These recommendations are designed to be both practical and adapted to the specificities of our industry. The guidelines propose innovative approaches to key challenges such as reducing ecological footprints, optimizing production processes, and adopting sustainable business practices. These guidelines are the fruit of in-depth reflection and close collaboration between our structures, providing a strategic framework and innovative ideas.

To discover the full range of actions and how they can transform your business, we encourage EuroSIMA members to download the complete framework. It's an invaluable resource for any company wishing to move towards a more sustainable future while remaining competitive in the dynamic board sports sector.

A unique collaboration for the environment: Surfrider Foundation Europe

EuroSIMA, the association at the heart of the European Action Sports industry and Surfrider Foundation Europe, the leading NGO that protects the Ocean, have joined forces. This collaboration has given birth to an innovative reference guide to help lead the Action Sports industry towards more sustainable practices. This unique reference guide is the fruit of collaborative work between the teams from both associations, who all pooled their talent with the shared goal and desire to protect our most precious playground: the Ocean.

"The idea behind this reference guide stems from the observation that we all - surfers, brands, retailers, the industry and shops - must become more responsible in our choices and actions. It is essential to protect our playgrounds, at the heart of which of course lies the Ocean. It was something I'd been thinking about, and then, after several meetings with Florent Marcoux, the President of Foundation Europe, we confirmed the importance of a collaboration to establish a common strategy, from which this reference guide was produced. While most of our members already have a confirmed strategy, it seemed crucial to raise awareness throughout the entire industry by offering precise support and clear paths so we can all "take it a step further ."
