During hikes, the guide raises awareness of the environment and provides information on mountain hazards. The guide is an athletic and versatile person in the fields of mountaineering, skiing and climbing.

Access
The Ecole Nationale de Ski et d'Alpinisme is the only school in France to offer a diploma in mountain guiding. Located in Chamonix, entry is by competitive examination, and the two-year course alternates between training and internships (summer and winter).
