Lifeguard

Description

The lifeguard must ensure the safety of the bathing area / body of water. In the sea or pool, he/she must be vigilant to all bathers and inform them of the risks. On the beach, he/she must delimit a surveillance zone reserved for bathers, in order to allow the practice of surfing without risk. He must provide first aid and notify the first aid team as soon as possible. His responsibility is great, so he must know how to inform (strong currents, wind, sunstroke...) to limit the interventions

The Brevet National de Sécurité et de Sauvetage Aquatique (BSSA) as well as the CFAPSE (Certificate of First Aid) are mandatory. The diploma is renewed every 5 years. Most of the coastal communities offer continuing education courses to prepare for the diploma. To teach, you must pass the BEESAN (Brevet d'Etat d'Educateur Sportif des Activités de natation).
